Southwest Airlines announced that flights from Houston, Texas to Liberia, Costa Rica will start on November 1, 2015, according to Gary Kelly, CEO of the Dallas-based airline. “These flights will provide much needed competition,” Kelly said. “There will be much needed relief from some of the highest international fares in the country.” This is great news for people traveling to and from Liberia!
Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport is undergoing a $156 million international terminal project, which broke ground in September 2013. This will make Hobby Airport the second international airport in Houston, Texas. Houston will be a major international connection point for Southwest Airlines customers traveling from Dallas Love Field, where federal law bans nonstop international flights.
Southwest Airlines has already launched new service between Baltimore (BWI) and Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica. The addition of flights to Liberia will finally offer lower cost flights for those wanting a direct flight to Texas and connections to other locations.
Tickets to Costa Rica are not yet available, as Southwest has to wait for approval from the Department of Transportation before it can start booking flights. But rest assured, once tickets become available, Southwest can expect a lot of people to fly this route!
